The Holy Spirit and Gathering

The Holy Spirit and His Present Ministry of Abiding With, In and Teaching Truth to Believers and Glorifying Christ
“And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him: for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” John 14:16-17

“Howbeit when He the Spirit of truth, is come He will guide(show the way, teach) you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. He shall glorify Me: for(because) He shall receive of Mine, and will shew(to announce[in detail]) it unto you.” John 16:13-14

The Principle for Every Gathering of a Local Assembly
“For(reason in relation to binding and loosing and also agreeing and asking)
where two or three are gathered together(to lead together i.e. collect or convene)
in(to[indicating the point reached])
My name(a “name” [lit or fig], authority, character),
there am I (I exist)
in(fixed position)
the midst of them.”
Matthew 18:20

In My Name
· Authority – For gathering acknowledging Jesus is Lord in the local assembly and thus complete submission to His word
· Character – In keeping with the holy character of His lovely name that we might not bring disgrace and dishonor to Him

There am I in the midst of them
· Divine Presence
· Christ is the gathering center and there is none other
· The Holy Spirit gathers us to the person of the Lord Jesus Christ a risen glorified Christ

The Holy Spirit “Gathers Us” Together in The Following Ways:

The Lord’s Supper – The Breaking of Bread
“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the
morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.” Acts 20:7

The Prayer Meeting
“And being let go, they went to their own company…And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled
together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with power.” Acts 4:23,31

The Teaching Meeting
“Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to
pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church and taught much people.” Acts 11:26

The Missionary Meeting
“And when they (Paul and Barnabas) were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and
how He had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.” Acts 14:27

The Elders Meeting
“And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.”(circumcision) Acts 15:6

The Gospel Meeting
“So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered unto them the
epistle…Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching(to announce good news, evangelize) the word of the Lord,
with many others also.” Acts 15:30,35

The Discipline Meeting
“In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, to
deliver such an one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that he spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 5:4

The Holy Spirit Dwells in the Local Assembly
“Know ye not that ye are (the church of God at Corinth) the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16
“And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are (the church of God at Corinth) the temple of the living God; as God hath
said “I will dwell in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16

The Sensitivity if the Holy Spirit
Individual “Grieve (to distress) not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30
Collective “Quench (to extinguish) not the Spirit.” 1 Thessalonians 5:19

The Holy Spirit Dwells in the Church Which is His Body
“In whom ye also (the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus) are builded together for a habitation(a dwelling place) of God through the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:22

The Complete Gathering of the Holy Spirit unto the Lord Jesus Christ
“Now we beseech you brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together(a complete collection) unto Him,
that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is
at hand.” 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2

The Exhortation of the Holy Spirit to Gather unto the Lord Jesus Christ
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;(not leaning i.e. [fig] firm) (for He is faithful that promised;) And let us
consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together (a complete collection),
as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:23-25
